Installnet Staff Spotlight: Laurie Gay
At Installnet, some of our most experienced employees have grown alongside the company itself. This month, we’re spotlighting a project manager whose 15-year journey reflects a deep understanding of the business, a passion for problem-solving, and a commitment to supporting both customers and installers.
Meet: Laurie Gay
Role: Project Manager
Time with Installnet: 15 years
What do you enjoy most about working at Installnet?
The people. I genuinely enjoy working with both my coworkers and our installers. I also love the problem-solving aspect of the job. Every project brings a new challenge, and I enjoy figuring out solutions and helping move things forward. Organization has always been one of my strengths, and this role is a great fit for that.
You’ve held several roles at Installnet. How has that shaped your approach to your work?
I started at Installnet as a receptionist and worked my way through multiple roles, including project coordinator, before becoming a project manager. Having experience in so many positions has given me a deep understanding of both the company as a whole and how projects move through the organization. I know what project coordinators need, how jobs are processed, and what happens behind the scenes to support successful installations. That perspective helps me be a better project manager because I understand the entire process from start to finish.
What’s a typical day like for you?
Busy. Most days are spent coordinating active projects, communicating with installers in the field, answering customer questions, and developing quotes. I manage approximately 15 accounts and quote between eight and ten jobs a day, so there’s always something happening.
How do you help support successful projects?
A big part of my role is staying connected to what’s happening in the field. I work closely with installers across many time zones—locations in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii—to make sure projects run smoothly and challenges are addressed quickly. Communication and organization are critical. The more proactive we can be, the more successful the project will be.
What do you enjoy most about working with installers?
Learning from them. We have incredibly knowledgeable installers who are always willing to share their expertise. Whether they’re walking me through an issue on FaceTime or sending photos from a job site, I learn something new all the time. They’ve also taught me the importance of patience. Taking the time to listen and understand their perspective makes all the difference.
What’s the most memorable project you’ve worked on?
The Marine Corps ballistic panel project. It was one of the most complex and demanding projects I’ve ever been part of. Our team was managing dozens of installations simultaneously, and the pace was intense. It challenged us in every way, but it also showed what’s possible when a team works together toward a common goal.
What has kept you at Installnet for 15 years?
The people and the leadership team. Throughout my career, Dale and the leadership team have always cared about their employees. They’ve supported me through different stages of life and consistently treated people with kindness and respect. You don’t find that everywhere, and it’s a big reason why I’ve stayed.
What do you enjoy outside of work?
Spending time with my family. I have two daughters and recently welcomed two new twin grandchildren—a boy and a girl—who are just coming home from the hospital. In September, we plan to all go to the beach together. My daughters and I particularly enjoy taking trips to Ocean City, Maryland.
