Installnet Staff Spotlight: Steve Bonhag
At Installnet, our strength has always been our people. Today, we’re spotlighting a leader whose steady, hands-on approach has helped shape our operations from the very beginning. Nearly three decades in, he continues to lead with the same customer-first mindset that has defined Installnet’s growth.
Meet: Steve Bonhag
Role: Team Lead
Time with Installnet: 27 years (and a founding team member as employee #2!)
You were the second employee hired at Installnet. What has changed over the years?
A lot has changed in terms of scale. We’ve grown significantly as a company, in the size of our projects, and the reach of our network. But what hasn’t changed is our foundation and values. We’ve always approached the business the same way: customer-first, hands-on, personal, and focused on doing the job right. Our growth has come through reputation and relationships. Today, we are a bigger version of who we’ve always been.
What makes a strong leader in this industry?
It’s about staying grounded and keeping people at the center of everything you do. Whether you’re working with customers, service providers, or your own team, success comes from listening, solving problems, and making sure everyone is aligned. When you focus on doing right by people, the work follows.
What does a typical day look like?
No two days are the same. My team supports a wide range of accounts, from major contract furniture manufacturers to mid-market and designer clients. We manage everything from large-scale commercial installations to residential and hospitality projects. A typical day is about keeping projects moving, supporting the team, solving challenges, and making sure we’re delivering for our customers at every stage.
Most memorable project?
After nearly three decades, it’s hard to pick just one. One that stands out was a 12-phase project at Philadelphia International Airport, where we installed more than 3,500 new seats. Coordinating around an active airport schedule while removing existing product was a major logistical challenge, but we delivered the project on time and on budget. It’s a great example of what can happen when planning, teamwork, and execution all come together.
What do you enjoy most about working at Installnet?
Seeing a project from start to finish never gets old. There’s something really rewarding about starting from scratch and ending with a finished space and a happy customer. But more than that, it’s the people. Over the years, I’ve built lasting relationships not just within Installnet but across our North American service provider network. Many of those connections have turned into lifelong friendships, and that’s something special.
Advice for your younger self—or someone just starting out?
Don’t limit yourself. There are more opportunities out there than you think, especially in this industry. Set your goals high, even if they feel out of reach. I didn’t even know this industry existed when I started, but by continuing to learn, take on new challenges, and stay open to opportunities, you can build a meaningful and lasting career.
Life after work?
Family is everything. I enjoy spending time with my wife and three adult children, whether that’s traveling or just catching up.
